Matthew and I have been talking and we realize not just for a natural disaster or the millennium do we need our food storage. With the economy the way it is there is always a chance that we could have a "slow" month. we need to be able to survive for a month or two should we hit a financial hick up.
Here is my problem with food storage... CARBS! OK i know that is totally stupid but hear me out.
there was a time in my teenager hood when my family went...dun dun dun...HEALTHY. gasp, i know! we went from hamburgers to turkey burgers , casseroles to a well rounded plate of protein, veggie and starch.
Where am i going you ask, and when do i plan on getting to the point...patients.
So after that little transition in the Shea house we went from using , or as we food storage guru's call it 'rotating' our food storage to, never using it. So the day when we moved from palmdale to green achers i remember my mom looking at my dad and looking at the 6 year old food storage that hadn't been touched and said. TOSS IT. GASP that was a lot of money. but she was right there was no way with our current eating habits that we could possibly "rotate" 12 # 10 cans of ABC soup before it began to sing all by itself.
Really I'm getting to my point....
My Point:
I DONT EAT RICE, FLAKY POTATO'S, DEHYDRATED RE FRIED BEAN or anything else of the carb nature for that matter. ( unless its FULL of sugar)
So i decided that it was my duty as a 'good' wife and mother to figure it out. so i decided that i would buy a 20 lb bag of rice and see what i can do with it. ( not all at once )
So for the next few weeks I'm giving it my best , one...two. here is what i came up with tonight. ( i get a 'you rock' for every ingredient i can use our food storage. )
My dad has his handful of yummies that he makes like no one else in the WORLD. Fried Rice is one of those treats that Kari Stewart will tell you surpasses any fast food chain. ( i know weird that i drug poor Kari Stewart in this but its a long story about him being their home teacher, yadda yadda) anyway quite impressive. So not only is this the food storage whiz , bang , boom....yeah almost 100% leftovers!!!
I had made rice *FS* for gruel ( another dad dinner, others know it as S.O.S if you wanna know what S.O.S stands for you will need to email me...this is a family friendly blog!) so i had about 2 cups cooked left over rice, a lot of pork from lali ribs ( sorry Aina's that meat was tuff) cut into cubes , a scrambled egg w/ onion ( egg wasn't left over , but the onion was!) and a cup of frozen veggies *FS*. all tossed in a wok with some low sodium soy sauce.
OK so i only got 2 food storage points, but i should get something for eliminating all the leftovers!

He made us that dinner after I had Jennifer. It was so good. We have had some great home teachers. but your dad is still the greatest. I just loved him. Your whole family is great.

The food was all fabulous. I don't know what you are talking about saying the meat was tough. We loved it.
