I wonder if people like Mr. Caudell and those protesting the LDS church outside our Cali temple can prove the money donated (in the churches name) actually came from the church. The church has stated many times that funds did not come from the religious organization for more reasons than one. But a large factor for not contributing financially is that by doing so it would put OUR tax exempt status in jeopardy. The church advised against donating in their name, though people chose to do it anyway. Also, because the church maintains the position that each and every member has the right to exercise their agency in regards to their political views the church donating funds from its members would remove the agency of those opposed to the proposition. Unlike the CTA did by donating funds to the No on 8 campaign from the teachers union dues.
The question is, do you, regardless of the direction from salt lake, believe in our divine creation and mission on this earth? Marriage between a man and a woman as we LDS members believe is by divine design in the creation of this earth, and our mission here. Regardless of the campaign and what we were "told" our belief has always been the same. Marriage is between a man and a woman.
In this great democratic nation the people have spoken, twice to be correct. I ask that those standing outside the temple, and harassing our members give us all a small bit of credit as to our ability to use our free agency to make decisions in regard to our democratic vote. I appreciate your views and wish for the same appreciation of my belief and realize that our great democracy has worked, as the people have spoken.
